The Challenge: Turning Vision Into Gold
When Ryan Schwabe – a 2x Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum mixing and mastering engineer – launched Schwabe Digital, he wanted his debut plugin to capture the sound of the world-class converters that defined his workflow.
The challenge was to emulate the sonic character of two renowned hardware mastering converters in a plugin that felt precise, musical, and intuitive. The goal: translate Ryan’s unique sonic vision into a professional tool that mixing and mastering engineers could trust every day.
Discovery

Through in-depth discovery sessions, we explored Ryan’s creative and technical goals for Gold Clip.
Defining the Product
We documented a detailed specification covering DSP requirements, core features, UI design, and performance targets — laying a foundation that kept development fully aligned with Ryan’s vision.
Development
Developing the DSP Model
We modeled the sonic behavior of select hardware units using schematic modeling and convolution. Prototypes were delivered throughout, enabling Ryan to test, give feedback, and refine until the DSP matched his expectations.
UI Design & Development
Our design team crafted a polished, intuitive interface that balanced functionality with brand identity. The process was iterative and collaborative, ensuring Ryan had the right level of involvement at each stage.
Delivery
Release
We delivered final builds in VST3, AU, and AAX formats for Windows and macOS, complete with PACE copy protection, ready for launch.
Support & Growth
Following release, we’ve continued to support Gold Clip with updates and new features. In 2024, we also developed Gold Clip Track, a spin-off plugin bundled with Gold Clip to expand its reach.
Outcome
Gold Clip launched as Schwabe Digital’s flagship product and quickly gained traction in the professional audio community. Today, it is used by mixing and mastering engineers worldwide, has sold thousands of copies, and cemented Schwabe Digital’s place as a new force in audio software.
